Practice Areas

George’s practice consists of Commercial & Company, Chancery & Property and Personal Injury litigation.

A major scholar of Lincoln’s Inn, George completed his pupillage at a leading commercial & property chambers in London. He joined Guildford Chambers in 2011 where he has a dedicated civil practice. He regularly appears in the County Court and has conducted hearings in the High Court (Queen’s Bench and Chancery Division) both as Junior Counsel and single-handedly.

 

Notable Cases

Hackney LBC v Smith & Ors (2012): the appeal, before Mr Justice Vos, concerned adverse possession and the Adjudicator to Her Majesty’s Land Registry (Practice and Procedure) Rules 2003, r. 42.

Eastenders Cash & Carry plc and another company v Revenue and Customs Commissioners [2010] All ER (D) 52 (Nov): concerning the power of detention contained in the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979, s. 139(1).

 

Commercial & Company

Examples of George’s recent cases include:

 

· advising and drafting particulars of claim for a household name client against a telecommunications company. Issues in the case include the variation of a contract and agency;

· advising and drafting defence and counterclaim in a £100k+ case concerning the purchase of a company;

· drafting particulars of claim in a £90k case with issues including breach of contract and quantum meruit; and

· regularly representing one of the UK’s largest home improvement companies.

 

George appears in contract, company (including directors’ duties), bankruptcy, insolvency and consumer law matters.

 

Chancery & Property

Examples of George’s recent cases include:

 

· advising a well-known national car park company as to the renewal of its lease;

· advising two clients in relation to the enforceability of an option agreement in respect of their property;

· representing two infant clients in an Inheritance Act dispute;

· advice, drafting and representation at a possession hearing concerning whether the Defendant was a licensee or a tenant; and

· representation at a hearing concerning the setting aside of a Default Costs Certificate arising out of a service charge dispute.

 

George is frequently instructed to attend possession hearings, charging order and order for sale hearings. He has been instructed to draft pleadings and represent clients in boundary disputes. George is also developing a practice in contentious probate, inheritance and TOLATA matters.

 

Personal Injury

George’s cases include the following:

 

· representation at small claims, fast-track and multi-track hearings, applications and CMCs;

· disposal hearings;

· advices on liability and quantum;

· credit hire: George was recently part of a team of barristers from Guildford Chambers who conducted a training day for a well-known insurer client. He regularly appears in cases with a credit hire element; and

· travel claims: George recently advised and drafted particulars of claim on behalf of four claimants in a travel claim. The case concerned the package holiday regulations and evidential issues arising from the need for foreign experts.
